Dropshipping Profit Margin: What's a Good Margin?
Updated September 2026 · 7 min read
A good dropshipping profit margin is 20-30% net profit after all costs. Gross margin should be at least 50% (sell price at least 2x product cost). If you're making less than 15% net profit, you're either overpaying for ads or sourcing too expensively.
Real Profit Example: $30 Product
| Line Item | Cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Sell Price | $30.00 | - |
| Product Cost | -$5.00 | From supplier |
| Shipping | -$4.00 | To US customer |
| Fulfillment Fee | -$1.50 | Agent/packaging |
| Shopify Fees | -$1.10 | ~2.9% + $0.30 |
| Advertising | -$10.00 | Average CAC |
| Net Profit | $8.40 | 28% margin |
How to Improve Your Margin
- Source cheaper: Switch from AliExpress retail prices to 1688 factory prices (save 20-40%).
- Negotiate shipping: Use a private agent who has discounted carrier rates.
- Lower ad spend: Once you have organic traffic and repeat customers, your CAC drops.
- Raise prices: Most stores underprice. Test raising prices by 10% — conversion usually doesn't drop.
